The LAM Australasia Research Alliance (LARA) is dedicated to improving the health prospects of women with LAM in Australia, New Zealand and throughout the region. A disease that affects only women, LAM is rare and often devastating.

Newly married and starting out on her career, Mara Rezo thought she had the world at her feet. However, at 25 a diagnosis of LAM saw the breakdown of her marriage and shattered her dreams of motherhood. Now working part-time and keeping as fit as she can with yoga, Mara is doing her best to manage the ill effects of the disease.








Young mother, Shani Eldridge had never smoked, but on Christmas Eve 2000 she was diagnosed with emphysema. In disbelief Shani sought a second opinion and was eventually diagnosed with LAM. At 37 she thought she would not live to see her two young sons grow up. Five years later, in July 2005, a lung transplant promised the only hope of survival.
